Summer Walking Program

Summer Walking Program
Walking is a low impact way to get exercise and increase your heart rate, if walking up hills, whether you're walking alone, with a friend or your dog. Now that Summer has officially arrived the weather is going to change to more humid and hot sunny days. These factors need to be taken into consideration when walking, so take these steps to help make your walk more enjoyable.
1. Time of day. Walk in the early morning or late in the evening when the weather is cooler, less humid and the sun isn't directly overhead. Try to avoid walking between the hours of 11 pm to 5 pm.
2. Hydration. Drink a large glass of water before your walk and/or take water with you (and your dog).
3. Terrain. Be aware of where you are walking (ie, trail, track or sidewalk). Walking on a track isn't as much of a concern as on a trail or sidewalk. Look out for sticks, rocks, cracks or changes in side walk height.
4. Sunscreen. Even during the morning or late evening, the sun can still affect the skin.
